-Teams from Sawgrass Country Club win both gross and net competition-
JACKSONVILLE, FL – On Monday, November 24th, the Jacksonville Area Golf Association held its 22ndJAGA Scholarship Trust Golf Classic at Deerwood Country Club and raised $20,000.
It was a clean sweep for Sawgrass Country Club as they won both the gross and net divisions.
The $20,000 in proceeds will support JAGA’s 2025-26 Charitable Trust program, which annually awards financial assistance to Northeast Florida high school graduates seeking to further their education at the college level or alternative level of higher education. JAGA currently supports 62 students with $2,500 renewable yearly grants or $10,000 over four years of school.
The current recipients represent 26 JAGA-member clubs, 30 area high schools and attend 32 different colleges in and outside the state of Florida. Formed in 1974, the Trust has awarded in excess of $2 million to approximately 400 college-bound students from the greater Jacksonville area.
Critical to the event’s success was the continued commitment of its many sponsors, including:

Several current and former JAGA scholars participated in the golf tournament and luncheon. Matthew Stienkamp and Sady Campbell spoke and reflected on the impact their JAGA scholarship has had on their college experience and the advancement of their dreams.

Deerwood Country Club was the tournament host for the fourth year in a row. The format was a four-player scramble, with gross and net competitions.
JAGA director Mike Charrie (Brentwood GC) chaired the Classic for the second year in a row. John Tancredi (Marsh Landing CC) recently took over the chairman’s role of the JAGA Charitable Trust. Peter Karpen (Marsh Landing CC) is the new head of the Scholarship Committee.
The Classic was first played in 2003 through the leadership of former JAGA president, the late Bill Black(1993-94), and carries on in his memory today.

Courtney Cobb captured the longest drive in the fairway for women and past JAGA Jacksonville Amateur Championship presented by Circle K champion and JAGA Senior Amateur champion David Anthony of Marsh Landing CC won the men’s long drive and closest to the hole contests.
Sydney Mattiace claimed another prize, the “Great Putt Contest”, held on the putting green. The former UNF standout rolled up the 65-foot putt to just over one foot.

DECEMBER’S FAMILY CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDES 2025 SEASON.…
The JAGA tournament season ends on a high note with the popular JAGA Family Championship at Jax Beach Golf Club on Saturday, Dec. 20th. The format is a two-person scramble, with gross and net competitions. A team can consist of any combination of two relatives (men, women, boys, girls, grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) For details and to sign up, go to: www.jaxareagolf.org (TOURNAMENTS Tab > 2025 TOURNAMENTS > JAGA Family Championship). The entry fee is $198 per team ($99 per player).

Established in 1954, JAGA celebrates its 72nd year in 2025. It is a not-for-profit corporation of approximately 40-member golf facilities located in Northeast Florida. JAGA’s mission is to promote golf, community and goodwill through tournaments and related events and activities.
