64th JAGA JACKSONVILLE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY SYNOVUS PREVIEW
With much anticipation, the area’s premiere men’s amateur championship will be played at the Donald Ross-designed Timuquana CC for the first time in the event’s 64-year history.
96 of Northeast Florida’s top amateurs whose primary residence is in one of the nine counties that surround Jacksonville – Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Nassau, Putnam, Flagler, Columbia, Suwannee and Baker – will compete over 54 holes of stroke play, with a cut to the low 36 scores and ties after two rounds. Competitors have a USGA handicap index that does not exceed 2.9.
Synovus returns as the championship’s presenting sponsor for the second year in a row.
World Amateur Golf Ranking points will be awarded to the top finishers.
The championship layout will range in yardage from 6,740 to 6,890, depending on daily tee locations.
The top 24 and ties will be awarded merchandise certificates to the Timuquana CC golf shop totaling $5,760.
Adam Waller of Jacksonville and Valdosta State University who won last year’s title at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club will defend. Other past champions in the field are Jordan Batchelor (2019) and Mike Smith (2021).
Among those who finished in the top ten last year are Tyler Gullicksen, Luke Balaskiewicz, Danny Erickson, Landon Durham (Elon University) and Jeff Dennis. All but Durham has current or former UNF connections.
The winning 2025 Underwood Cup Amateur team is represented by Batchelor, Dennis and Smith, plus Chase Baldwin, Sam Geise, Lance LaCombe and Matt Saxton.
Former Connecticut Mid-Amateur and Public Links champion Brent Dietz is in the field having earned an exemption as the winner of the 68th JAGA Senior Amateur Championship, played at Marsh Landing Country Club in April.
JAGA has once again provided access to the North Florida Junior Golf Tour. Representing NFJGT this year is 2025 Beachside HS graduate Barton Abstein. In addition, there are 10 former NFJGT players in the field.
First played in 1962, the Jacksonville Amateur presented by Synovus is JAGA’s second oldest championship. The JAGA Senior Amateur is the oldest, dating back to 1958.
